The Black Queen, the ambient electronic music project from Greg Puciato (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan, Killer Be Killed) Josh Eustis (Teflon Tel Aviv, Puscifer), and Steven Alexander have released a limited edition version of their classic album Fever Daydream on cassette. But slipped into the message ot fans on Bandcamp, was word of a new album coming in 2022. Rejoice!
The Black Queen’s debut album Fever Daydream (interview here) turned five years old last week and the band celebrated with a merch drop, including limited edition vinyl that immediately sold out. Now they have released a deluxe digital edition of the album expanded to 39 tracks with demos, alternate takes, and other gems.
During The Black Queen’s (members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Teflon Tel Aviv) headline tour of the US this spring, Ghost Cult’s Keefy caught up with Steven Alexander at Music Hall of Williamsburg for an interview. In a candid chat in their dressing room before the show, Steven discussed his formative years as a musician, what he learned being a guitar tech for major bands that translates over to being in a working band, the difference between writing the first TBQ album and Infinite Games (Federal Prisoner), and just how long we will have to wait for new music from the group. Matt Lupo of East Of The Wall’s solo project Opul will be releasing his fourth solo album Levels, out January 13, 2015 via Nefarious Industries.
On his fourth solo excursion as OPUL, Lupo delivers plenty of the guitar and melodic vocals he is known for providing for his other musical acts, yet on this expansive and reflexive three-song EP, the multi-instrumentalist supplies all instruments including bass and drums. A layered and ambitious excursion, this twenty-minute recording showcases a variety of beautifully-layered vocal arrangements, atop both crunching and crystal clear guitar tones, and an incredible range of musical exploration, fully written, performed, recorded and mixed by Lupo himself, and mastered by Steven Alexander. OPUL’s newest offering is guitar-driven, super-melodious, heavy rock riffage that aims for the stratosphere. Something tangible is here offered to fans of 90s progressive/post-hardcore experimentation, modern progressive crossover and soulful folk/indie rock, with fragments of everything from Quicksand, Sensefield, Shift, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead, Dredg and labelmates Maid Myriad cohesively found within these Levels.
