Spanning the entire career of a metal icon, Head On A Pike:The Illustrated Lyrics of Matt Pike, but the iconic Stoner doom legend Matt Pike of bands such as High on Fire and Sleep is releasing on November 9th, 2021, via Rare Bird Books. Beginning with the 1998 album ‘The Art Of Self Defense’, and through to 2018’s ‘Electric Messiah’, each chapter of Head on A Pike features Matt’s distinctive lyrics flanked by one-of-a-kind artistic interpretations — specifically inspired by each album — straight from the minds and hearts of an incredible cast of illustrators, tattooers, print makers and painters that Pike has trusted since the beginning to depict his unique musical vision. Head On A Pike: The Illustrated Lyrics of Matt Pike is scheduled for worldwide release in hardcover and e-book, and the trade edition will retail for $20. Tuska Festival 2021 Canceled Due to The Pandemic, Set to Return in 2022

Another festival bites the dust due to the pandemic as Tuska Festival has been forced to cancel their 2021 event, and plan to rebook for 2022. Some rock and metal festivals worldwide are trying their best to bounce back from the last year, but in the case of Tuska, they didn’t feel like the conditions worked for hosting the fest. Tuska 2021 was to have been headlined by Korn, Deftones, Gojira, Devin Townsend, Baroness, insomnia,, Beast In Black, Eluveitie, Jinjer, Finntroll, High on Fire, Perturbator, Oranssi Pazuzu, Vltimas, Gaahls Wyrd, Korpiklaani, and many more. Matt Pike Says New High on Fire, and His Debut Solo Album Are in Progress

In a new interview on Gimme Metal with Jim Santanella, Matt Pike discussed the progress of the new album from High on Fire, a new solo project, and more. According to Pike, High on Fire is in the progress of writing their new album for a hopeful late 2021 release. The band is recording with drummer Chris Maggio who joined the band as a live drummer following the departure of Des Kensel in July 2019. The new HoF album will be the follow up to their Grammy-Award winning 2018 album Electric Messiah (eOne). He also says writing and recording for his long-in-the-making solo album is underway as well, although no timetable for release is set. Pike also remarked that his legendary Stoner doom band SLEEP is still on hiatus, but all the members are on good terms and drummer Jason Roeder (Neurosis) just moved to the area near him, in Portland, Oregon. Pike gave deeper details to Santanella about the history of High On Fire since their album The Art Of Self Defense is getting the double LP rerelease treatment from the Gimme Metal Vinyl club this month. Gojira Joins Tuska Festival 2021 as a Headliner

Hopefully returning for 2021, Helsinki’s Tuska Festival is one of the greatest musical events in the world. Gojira has been added to the bill, joining other headliners Korn, Gojira, Deftones, Devin Townsend, Bodom After Midnight, Insomnium, Mokoma, Beast In Black, Symphony X, Eluveitie, Jinjer, Lost Society, Belzebubs, High On Fire, Perturbator, Oranssi Pazuzu, Vltimas, Gaahls Wyrd and more to be announced. Gojira returns, along with Korn and Deftones as headliners from the previously canceled 2020 event.

Metal Vs Racism Releases Its Second Episode

After making its debut early this week with episode one, Metal Vs. Racism, an online collective of metal musicians has shared their second episode. High on Fire Cancels All Headline Tour Dates for 2020 Due to Coronavirus

In a message to fans, High on Fire has canceled all of its headline club tour dates due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The band suggests fans contact their point of purchase for refunds. Ad for their festival dates, the band recommends keeping up with Festival news on their sites and socials. They are working on rescheduling European tour dates for 2021. The band had continued to tour in support of their Grammy-Award winning album Electric Messiah, released via eOne Music. The band has yet to announce a permanent replacement for co-founder and drummer Des Kensel, who stepped down from the band after 21 years in 2019.Continue reading →
