Songleikr (ft. Maria Franz of Heilung) Release New Album “Fuglefolk” – “Elden Melder” Video Out Now

After nearly a decade between releases, Songleikr returns with a new album, Fuglefolk (Self-Released), a heartfelt and playful collection that leans heavily into original material. While Godtfolk (2016) drew deeply from traditional sources, Fuglefolk is almost entirely self-composed, showcasing richer instrumentation and a more progressive spirit.

The lineup features Maria Franz (also known for her work with Heilung and Euzen), Ingrid Galadriel Aune Falch, Kasia Sikora-Black, and Petter-Olai Østbye Sagen. Together, they build a sound that balances shimmering melodic textures with grounded rhythmic pulse. Watch the video for “Elden Melder” below, and purchase the album directly from the band.

The band recorded Fuglefolk live in the studio, with the full ensemble performing together to capture a raw, communal “folk-in-the-room” energy. Several tracks grew directly from improvised jam sessions, reflecting the group’s name — “song game” — where spontaneity and connection shape the creative process.

Fuglefolk also welcomes notable guest appearances, including Magnus Børmark of Gåte on mandola and guitar, Danish artist Myrkur on viola and keyharpa, Jo Ranheim on mandola and guitar, and Mona Hynne on guitar.

Hynne recorded, mixed, and produced the album at Øra Studio, with co-production from Fieke van den Hurk, Maria Franz, Kasia Sikora-Black, and Ingrid Galadriel Aune Falch. Maria Triana mastered the record.

The cover artwork brings together contributions from Moriild/Mia Maria My Gravgaard (original birds and vines), Kai Uwe Faust (background and digital editing), Maria Franz (layout, handwriting, digital editing), Fieke van den Hurk (layout and graphic design), and Kasia Sikora-Black (artistic input).

They have announced a short run of dates in Europe for this year.
