Unfortunately, we are currently living in an age where it is deemed acceptable by misguided hipsters to take a post rock or even a shoegaze track, add some crackly distortion, growl (badly) over the top of it and, hey presto, you’ve got yourself a ‘black metal’ track! The only thing separating Laurasia Awaits Us from the confused hordes is the fact that they originate from Finland and not the US. The heinous disease is hopping continents.

Apathy Remains Victorious is a relatively easy listen, purely because it is so gentle and uncharismatic. All of the instrumentals are fairly simple, there is a slight fuzz that permeates every track and the entire record is played at a relatively slow, almost DSBM pace. Occasionally it creeps into doom territory, where it becomes heavier but it’s snatched back again quickly by the heavily warped, slightly rasping vocals. The clean singing is embarrassing at best and the lyrics utterly cringe-worthy.

The duo seem more than capable of producing something inspiring – adversely, this record is not it. In trying to follow an already well over saturated scene, they have created something so inoffensive, so feeble, that it barely makes an impression at all.
