For nearly two decades, Manchester’s Ingested have stood as one of the UK’s most uncompromising forces in extreme metal, evolving from underground slam pioneers into a globally recognized, forward-driving powerhouse. Denigration marks a bold new chapter for the band, one forged under considerable pressure. Founding vocalist Jason Evans departed in November 2024, and his initial replacement, Josh Davies, was dismissed in February 2026 following serious allegations of misconduct.
Rather than delay the record, founding members Sean Hynes (guitars) and Lyn Jeffs (drums) made the decision to re-record all vocals, with Hynes and new guitarist Andrew Virrueta stepping up to share vocal duties across the album. The lineup is completed by bassist Thomas O’Malley, and the result is Ingested’s most dynamic and commanding work to date.
“Watch You Fold” is a character assassination aimed at institutional parasites hiding behind legacy and respectability. The band describes it as “technical without showboating, relentless without losing groove, and built around riffs that feel like concrete,” with John Gallagher’s instantly recognizable gutturals tying the track back to the mid-2000s Unique Leader era of brutal death metal that shaped the band’s sense of heaviness. Beyond Gallagher, Denigration also features Damonteal Harris of PeelingFlesh on “Merciless Reflection,” Skyler Conder of Cell on “Dragged Apart,” and Kyle Medina of Bodysnatcher on “Dredge the Dark.”
