END OF YEAR GUEST POST: Severe Torture’s Top 10 Albums of 2024

Wrapping up all the business of 2024 with some fun End of Year Guest Posts from bands, friends, music industry pals, label types, and assorted good fiends! Check out this list from the guys in Severe Torture!

10. Solbrud IIII
Swan song album for this Danish black metal band, a double LP where every side is written by a different band member. Too bad they quit, luckily I got to see them live this year!

Solbrud – “For evigt, For altid, Forandret”

9. Grand Magus Sunraven
I’m a big fan of JB’s vocals and guitar work and this for me is perfect straightforward heavy metal. And you can take heavy literally.

Grand Magus – “Sunraven”

8. Whoredom RifeDen Vrede Makt
Very good focus album by these Norwegians, melancholic and brutal at the same time.

Whoredom Rife – “Den Vrede Makt”

7. High on FireCometh the Storm
Monster of an album, Matt Pike stays one of my all-time favorite guitar players, ultra heavy riffing, and the first album with the new drummer.

High on Fire – “Burning Down”

6. UlcerateCutting the Throat of God
There’s so much going on in these songs and take a listen to those drums, amazing! Dissonant hypnotising death/black, gets better each time I listen to the album.

Ulcerate – “To Flow Through Ashen Hearts”

5. Saturnalia TempleParadigm Call
I kind of missed the previous album but this one hits back hard! First album with the In Solitude Ahman brothers on bass and drums, can’t go wrong there!

Saturnalia Temple – “Revel in Dissidence”

4. DjevelNatt Til Ende
Final album in the ‘night’ trilogy, love the guitar sound and the melodies and of course it’s Faust on drums.

Djevel – “Natt til ende”

3. Concrete Winds Concrete Winds
This is a sonic whirlwind in the vein of old Angelcorpse which is so fucking brutal, after listening this album you feel like a train run over you. Love it! And they deliver live as well!

Concrete Winds – “Permanent Dissonance”

2. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Wild God
You have to see him perform to get it even better but this album is also great on its own. Really love lyrics that contain sentences like ‘It was rape and pillage in the retirement village’

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – “Wild God”

1. Blood IncantationAbsolute Elsewhere
Perfect combination of high-quality death metal mixed with Pink Floyd and prog rock. Can’t wait to see this album live!

Blood Incantation – “The Stargate”
