“A Portrait of Decay” hits like an aggressive death metal steamroller while exploring dissociation as a means of enduring pain and suffering. The track was recorded in Belgium in June 2026 and engineered, mixed, and mastered by Yarne Heylen at Project Zero Studio. The artwork was created by Brazilian artist Marcos Miller. The single is out now on all major streaming platforms and as a strictly limited seven-inch vinyl release.

Drummer Luana Dametto wrote the script for the accompanying music video and explains its visual approach: “The video clip is both an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound but also a cinematic depiction of the lyrics: an ethereal and almost dream-like landscape that represents someone’s true state of being, clear thoughts and light emotions, that slowly dissipate with the passing of time and changing of surroundings, and with the night and a much darker environment, after a while, feelings of being adrift and astray arise, showing that our conditions and time can directly change the way we see ourselves and the way we feel and interact.”

“A Portrait of Decay” is the first track to feature the band’s completed new lineup, following the announcement of Victoria Villarreal as permanent guitarist in April 2026. Formed in 2019 by former Nervosa members Luana Dametto and Fernanda Lira, Crypta released their latest album Shades of Sorrow in August 2023 and have since closed that chapter with their most recent live run. New music is now the mission.
