saywecanfly

SayWeCanFly’s “Song of the Sparrow” video was selected from a group of five up and coming artists by viewers of MTVU’s “The Freshmen” competition voting online.

MTVU is viewed at over 802 college campuses, where it plays commons areas, dorms and libraries. MTVU also reaches 55 million homes.

“It’s amazing to see a platform like MTV still caring about up and coming artists,” SayWeCanFly’s Braden Barrie said. “It takes a lot of work to move forward in the music industry, and I can honestly say this has given me new perspective. MTV is clearly alive and well and I think really helps everyone connect and feel like family.”

Barrie, who is the artist behind the SayWeCanFly moniker, has built his career through personal connections with fans through social media and live performances. With the release of his debut full-length, Between The Roses, those dedicated fans have shown undying support while helping to spread the word about SayWeCanFly.

“It means the world to me that everyone cared so much to make this happen,” Barrie said. “It’s moments like these when I think we all feel and understand how each of us plays such an important role in helping SayWeCanFly grow, and I hope everyone knows this was our win, not mine.”

Einar Kvitrafn Selvik (Wardruna) Appearing On History Channel’s Vikings

Einar Kvitrafn Selvik of Wardruna will appear in History Channel’s Vikings series. Vikings is inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known mythological Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France. It portrays Ragnar as a former farmer who rises to fame by successful raids into England with the support of his family and fellow warriors: his brother Rollo, his son Bjorn, and his wives-the shieldmaiden Lagertha and the princess Aslaug. WARDRUNA’s music has appeared widely in the series previously, and will also be found extensively in the series’ forthcoming season. Kvitrafn will appear in the third season, which is scheduled to air on February 19th, 2015.

“I really enjoy being a part of the musical artillery of the series and I was truly honored when production asked me if I was interested in making a small musical appearance in front of the camera as well,” Kvitrafn elaborates. “The production, director and actors was all very welcoming and so it was all in all a great experience for me! Before the first season was premiered,” he continues, “I was contacted by the production team because they wanted to license some songs. They were very pleased with how the music worked out and what it contributed to the show so they got in touch again for season two where they in addition to using WARDRUNA music asked if I would be interested in working together with the series’ award-winning composer, Trevor Morris. So we tried it and we all liked how it worked and we have continued our collaboration onto the score of the third season that premieres next week. It is great fun to be part of this and I’ve learn a lot from it. Even though the series, for several reasons, cannot create everything one-hundred-percent authentic they do have a genuine desire to do as much as they can to create a more nuanced and correct view on the Vikings and they constantly hunt for authentic details to include. It’s no secret that I am a Nordic-history nerd of giant proportions – therefore it is very pleasing when they ask me for such details from time to time.”

Banger Films’ Rock Icons Launching Rock Icons via Vh1

NEW_BANGER_LOGO

Metal anthropologist/film maker Sam Dunn of Banger Films will be launching his Rock Icons show on Vh1. A statement was issued on the matter:

Sam_Dunn_Dave_Mustaine_Winery_2014

Greetings Bangers…
Happy New Year!
We’re kicking it off with a huge announcement about our newest television series, premiering next month on Vh1 Classic: Rock Icons.

Watch a teaser video here.

Over the past year, I’ve been travelling to meet with some of the biggest names in rock and metal music. Some of them will be very familiar to you, like the metal heroes I’ve had the privilege to interview before, people like Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, Geddy Lee of Rush and Slash. I’ve also had the chance to sit down for the first time with such iconic artists as Ann Wilson of Heart and Daryl Hall. I traveled to Dave Mustaine’s winery, Nikki Sixx’s radio studio, Billy Corgan’s home and even got invited back to the Texas sanctum of Ted Nugent. It’s been a blast really getting to know each of these musicians and I can’t wait to share their stories with you.

With Rock Icons, we feel strongly that what we’ve made is a different kind of music biography show. One that’s actually about the music and what drives these artists to create the way they do. Truly, what makes them an icon.

Mark your calendars and tune in each Saturday night! (If you are outside of America, sit tight for further announcements about Rock Icons coming to your country.)

Rock Icons premieres Saturday, February 21 at 10pm EST on Vh1 Classic. And the first episode features one of our fave artists of all-time, the remarkable Geddy Lee.

Horns,
Sam Dunn
