Three years after delivering the devastating debut album, Defiled in Oblivion, death metal juggernauts Castrator return to unleash their most intense work yet. Their upcoming full-length, Coronation of the Grotesque, arrives August 15 via Dark Descent Records.
“We see it as a leap forward,” says drummer and co-founder Carolina Perez. “It’s our strongest work to date. Writing Coronation of the Grotesque was an incredibly enjoyable experience, and everything seemed to come together much more naturally this time. While the album still retains elements of who we were as a band, it’s much more refined, cohesive, and brutal.
Driven by Perez, bassist Robin Mazen, and vocalist Clarissa Badini, the band now boasts a ferocious and fresh lineup featuring new guitarist Sara Loerlein, whose shredding leads and fresh energy bring new depth to the band’s sound.
“Sara has been fantastic,” Perez adds. “She’s incredibly professional, brings a ton of new ideas, and her experience really shines through. She’s added a fresh dynamic to the band, and her guitar leads are absolutely killer! We’re really excited to have her as part of the band.”
The band has dropped a video for the track “Covenant of Deceit”, directed by Bob Vigna of Immolation.
Lyrically, Coronation of the Grotesque is unflinching, tackling real-world horrors and historical atrocities—from the murder of Mahsa Amini and the ancient Sumerian practice of eunuchization to the takedown of predator Naasón Joaquín García. Badini’s vocal delivery serves as a brutal exorcism of pain and protest.
