Owners Jordan and Shannon announced the closure on social media with a message that hit the San Diego metal community hard: “After 12 incredible years, our chapter on Buenos Ave is coming to an end. There aren’t enough words to express what this place and this community have meant to us. Thank you to every artist, fan, promoter, teammate, neighbor, and friend who helped make Brick San Diego’s home for heavy music.”
The final month of shows on Buenos Ave includes The Cybertronic Spree on August 12, followed by one last night with the local metal community on August 13 featuring The Undertaking, Blackcast, Helsott, and Cascade Effect, plus an all-star jam celebrating some of Brick’s most memorable moments.
The news drew immediate and emotional responses from across the heavy music world. Nick Hipa of Mire, the former As I Lay Dying guitarist, commented: “We had a pretty sick run of it. Grateful for everyone in the San Diego heavy music scene we got to connect with as well as the incredible bands that came through over the years.” Whether the venue relocates or closes permanently remains unclear; the announcement referenced the Buenos Ave location specifically, leaving the door open for a potential future chapter elsewhere.
