ALBUM REVIEW: Todestrie – Cenorona Tebra – Avantgarde Music

Today on the block we have some killer metal straight from Poland. Avantgarde Music label artist
Todestrieb with their new album Corona Tenebra. One thing I really enjoyed on this album were the things I did not see coming.

Starting off sounding very dystopian and dark we soon encounter slower introspective pieces that feel very familiar, this album has a vibe and a flow to it. The vocals are particularly noteworthy with spots sprinkled in that bring about a cinematic element. This element mixed with the slow burn feel gives each song an almost cliffhanger feel leaving the listener wondering what will come in the next chapter. Todestrieb is a black metal band, although they do a good job of stepping into other genres,  they do it their way, which of course is the point. Another stand out element is just how hooky some of the guitar parts are. Their use of tones and sound to convey their message sonically is very tasty. Some of the parts come of almost “radio friendly”, of course, they bring it right back with demonic vocals that keep everything in perspective.

Cenorona Tebra shows the band’s ability to find their own identity as a duo. The balance of fast and slow keeps everything well-paced making for the perfect foundation for that cinematic feel. I was left wanting more at the end of the day wishing there was maybe one or two more tracks but hey maybe they said what they had to say. “Leave em wanting more” ain’t that how the old saying goes??
