Dundee, Scotland prog metallers, Solar Sons, have been announced as guest headliners at the Metal 2 The Masses: Scotland Grand Final. The band originally won M2TM Inverness in 2017, earning a spot at Bloodstock Open Air, and were invited back in 2022. They are currently playing live in support of their new album, Altitude, out now, via Argonauta Records. Read more below.

Encouraging this year’s bands, Solar Sons frontman, Rory Lee, said “Winning M2TM and playing Bloodstock’s New Blood stage was like lifting the lid on a treasure chest. That thing felt elusive, until it was right there. It gave us a new level of confidence and power. Give it all you’ve got!”
M2TM is the award winning live initiative from the UK’s biggest independent metal festival, Bloodstock Open Air. Through the event franchise, underground bands from regions all over the UK and beyond, carve their way to a slot at BOA every year. Since 2020, Slow Dragon Music has taken the reins of the programme in Scotland, transforming a formerly single-city celebration into a country-wide endeavour.
This year’s Scottish final is set to take place May 23rd, at La Belle Angele, Edinburgh. The lineup also features fellow guest headliners, Nothing Speaks (Scottish M2TM winners 2025), and the finalists, King Nobody, Lupine Raine, The Broken Ravens, Late Landing, and Chekhov’s Gun. Hailing from Dundee, Scotland, Solar Sons are a high-energy rock and metal trio who twist traditional heavy metal with modern groove, a sprinkling of stoner/doom, and touches of progressive rock. Altitude marks their sixth studio album, recorded in November 2024 at Nameless City Sound with engineer Jamie Gilchrist (King Witch). Tracked in just 8 days, the record captures the raw energy and chemistry of the band at their most confident and electrifying.
The songs on Altitude are about friendship, escaping the madness of the city, shaking off the blues, and celebrating the magic of music. Each track is performed with an intensity that radiates good vibes and pure rock ’n’ roll spirit.

Since their formation in 2016, Solar Sons have self-released five albums, with their last two (2021 and 2023) earning widespread praise across the underground heavy scene. On stage, Solar Sons are a proven live force. They’ve toured extensively throughout Scotland and England, sharing stages with Green Lung, Weedpecker, and King Witch (with Rory also serving as bassist/vocalist). Their most notable performances include Bloodstock Festival in 2017 and 2022, plus headline London shows in 2023 and 2024.
