When The Sun Sets Drop a Single and Video for “Undertow” Ft. Definitely Maybe – New Album Coming Soon

Chicago based pop-punk band, When The Sun Sets, have just shared their brand new single, “Undertow,” featuring Definitely Maybe. This is the follow-up to their most recent track “Serotonin Sunrise,” part of a series leading to a new album, and is accompanied by a visualizer video. Watch it below.

The concept behind “Undertow” is about struggling with your mental health even when you’re making progress with it. This song gives a take on the feeling of being swept away by your own griefs and hardships. It has always been our mission as a band to create a community where we everyone can support and love each other for who they are, and provide awareness to mental health through our music.” Says lead vocalist Zack Baumgartner about the new track “Working with Courtney from Definitely Maybe has been a true blessing for us, and there is nobody better to help light a beacon for anyone who needs it than her. In working together, we aim to provide hope for anyone who is looking for it through “Undertow” and highlight some of the positives in every day. ‘At least I made it out of bed today’ is a win that you can go into every day cherishing, and work off of that.

When The Sun Sets bridges the gap between modern and classic pop-punk. The band hones in on their ability to write relatable lyrics that highlight a message of mental health and suicide awareness. “For me, it’s going through my own experiences. You may think you’re alone, but a lot of people are going through the same thing. Our biggest thing we want to get through to our audience is that you’re never alone,” says Baumgartner about the band’s lyrics.

With influence from bands like New Found Glory, A Day To Remember and Neck Deep, When The Sun Sets pairs their passionate lyrics with driving riffs to bring the fun back into the genre. The band signed with Lost Music Collective, owned by founder of Fueled by Ramen, Vinnie Fiorello, in 2019 bringing new energy to the roster after writing their heart-stealing acoustic ballad “February.” Their debut EP Transparent was released on the label in May of 2020 and gave the group a solid fan-base to begin their journey. Now independent, the band is gearing up to release a full-length album amongst a string of singles. The release will feature artists such as: The Home Team, 408, Definitely Maybe, and lolitslea to showcase some talented friends in the scene and display the next step in their songwriting. Their most recent EP You + Me 4 Never has yielded over 300,000 streams on Spotify alone.

When The Sun Sets bring their energetic show to life in massive ways, having played alongside major national and international artists such as: Bearings, The Home Team, 408, Boys of Fall, Every Avenue, Carousel Kings, Knockout Kid, Makeout, Story Untold and many more. The band intertwines their message of never wanting their fanbase to feel alone while building their own unique connection with them. “We just want there to be a sense of community where people are allowed to be themselves. We feel like a lot of people are missing out on that,” says the band about the environment they create at their live shows.
