This stand alone saccharine sweet shaft of musical light that’s clocking in at 2:59, blazes a trail from Wax’s trippy, heavy, kaleidoscopic 2023 album Psychotomimetic, through 2024’s throbbing Silver Tongued Devil to, frankly…wherever the fuck he wants to go next.
“I was hankering to clean my emotional and musical palate of my recent jamz from Mobocracy, Blunt, Psychotomimetic, and Silver Tongued Devil using an earworm to tickle my amygdala like the Froot Loops-fueled Saturday morning power pop TV tunes that were seared into my malleable young mind for years. Like millions of others of my generation, I was guzzling slugs of the sing-along Kool-Ade of Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera, and Sid & Marty Krofft. Josie and the Pussycats, Scooby-Doo, The Banana Splits, HR Pufnstuf, Bugs Bunny, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Magilla Gorilla, The Partridge Family, Underdog, Batman, The Munsters, The Brady Bunch, Gilligan’s Island. An electroencephalography of my limbic system would have shown that I was buzzed back then, and the sticky nougats of throwaway creative input had prepared the folds of my auditory cortex for The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Queen, KISS, Cheap Trick, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Van Halen, Sweet, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Motorhead, Judas Priest, and Aerosmith.
Jump to 2025, and I conjured up a jaw-breaking glob of power punk pop rock fondant, as if it was thrown down by Elvis Costello, The Clash, The Ramones, The Police, The Cars, and The Sex Pistols. I’m enjoying slaking a big gulp of deliciously sweet, slamming, snotty, glorious fun. Full fucking stop. Hence “420,” the stoner national anthem. Or is it?”
