The Global Citizen Festival took place yesterday at Central Park here in New York City, and while the lineup was packed with popular artists from all over the world, I went for Metallica, and they delivered a short, yet powerful set. After we waited almost eight hours outside, and inside Central Park, the heavy metal icons hit the stage just after 6:00PM, and as you’ll see in the footage below, they delivered a five song set that made every Metallica fan in the crowd proud. They opened with ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’, then went straight into the entire ‘Master of Puppets’ track, an intense performance of ‘One,’ a nice rendition of ‘Nothing Else Matters’, and ended with ‘Enter Sandman’ to the audience’s delight. While most of the crowd only knew the last two songs, you could tell that they were blown away by the passion of the Metallica crowd. I went so nuts that the fans next to me decided to move, but I have no regrets. This was a Metallica show for that moment in time. No, they didn’t headline, but as you saw by the mass exodus of fans afterwards, the Metallica family was strongly represented in the park. We came for one band, and one band only, and although all of us had to sit through some “pop” acts to get there, after it was all said and done, it was worth it. Metallica dominated the Global Citizen Festival, and it was a set that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
