Speaking on the origins of “Irene,” the band’s Jeremy Lyons noted “Although it’s performed with a basic Morphine-style arrangement – slide-bass, sax, drums and vocals – to me, this song is reminiscent of late 50’s/early 60’s pop music. It’s like bubble gum pop grew up, developed a drinking problem, got left at the altar, and went to bed.”
Vapors was formed over a decade ago by Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley, singer and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Lyons and Morphine’s original drummer Jerome Deupree. The group now includes drummer Tom Arey (J. Geils Band, Peter Wolfe’s Midnight Ramblers, Ghosts of Jupiter). Their new album represents both a new era and a return to form for Vapors of Morphine. Fear & Fantasy is available for pre-order here, as a limited edition 180 gram marbled colour gatefold LP, plus CD.
Vapors of Morphine will tour the East Coast of the U.S. (dates below) throughout the fall, as well as Europe and Russia, dates to be confirmed soon.
