James Smith, guitarist and long-time member of Underoath, was been apparently dismissed from the band, just days before the band kicked off their new tour, according to a report from Lambgoat. James shared news of his exit from the band after 20 years on social media earlier today. Smith expressed his sadness and disappointment but also gave thanks to the fans who have supported the band throughout the years. James was apparently “informed” he was out of the band, and not vice-versa. So this was not a mutual decision. Now the remaining members of Underoath have commented the split, but no news of a replacement, just yet. The band recently signed to MNRK Heavy and dropped a new single “Let Go!” The band is currently finishing the last few dates of their spring tour with Periphery and Loathe.

“After 20 years of music and friendship, I was informed that I’m no longer a member of Underoath. This saddens me to say, but unfortunately is where we have ended up. I appreciate everyone who, at any moment in their lives, have felt inspired, accepted, comforted, and energized by the music we created and the shows we performed together. It has been my honor and privilege to be a part of your lives in that way though we may have never met or shared our stories face to face. Your dedicated, grace, and love for this band have allowed us to exist this long. The memories I have from this ride are more than anyone could ever expect in a lifetime, and I genuinely thank you all for being a part of it.”
