Even though we are talking about two different industries, music and sports have always bonded very well. Music is inspiring, which is often needed by athletes in order to push themselves to their limits. On the other hand, musicians love the competitive nature of sports, and that adrenaline rush sometimes inspired them to make some songs
Since we are talking about music and sports, there isn’t a better combination than the NFL and metal music. Both draw on raw aggression and artists and athletes have a way to channel that adrenaline and aggressiveness into a work of art.
The NFL and metal music actually have a lot in common. They both attract massive crowds filling up stadiums to the last seat, and both players and band members like to perform beneath the bright lights without being afraid of losing their voices screaming.
This connection between metal music and NFL has been bringing both worlds very close together, where athletes attend metal concerts and listen to metal music before a big game, and metal artists like to experience some football magic when they are not touring the world.
This got us wondering, which teams among football lines do popular metal artists support? Let’s find out.
Jungle Rot
Jungle Rot is an American death metal band from Wisconsin that was formed in 1992. Over the years, they have put out quite a lot of singles and albums making a rich music career. However, they are one of the biggest football fans in the metal world.
Jungle Rot is a metal group band that has a soft spot for everything that comes from their home state of Wisconsin, which is why they are huge supporters of the Packers, especially the lead guitarist Dave Matrise. More than a decade ago, when Matrise was asked about his top favorite things about Wisconsin, he listed the Packers as number one.
Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne is one of the biggest names in the heavy metal and hard rock industry with many Grammy and NME awards throughout his career. Even though he was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to drug and alcohol problems, he went on to have quite a successful music career releasing 12 studio albums.
However, music isn’t his only passion. Ozzy Osbourne is a big NFL fan supporting the Patriots. Back in 2005, he surprised everyone by donning a Patriots jersey and playing Crazy Train for a New England Patriots Game opener.
At the time, the New England Patriots were one of the leading teams that were always fighting for the Championship Title with Tom Brady as their leader. Even though Ozzy Osbourne never came out to confirm that he is a Patriots fan, he managed to prove this on many occasions.
Phil Anselmo
Here we have another American heavy metal vocalist, that is best known as a lead singer for Superjoint, Pantera, and Down. He is often regarded as the best heavy metal frontman in the history of this music genre.
Unlike Ozzy Osbourne, he is not shy about revealing his football fashion and the team that he supports. He has been a die-hard fan of the Saints for years. Even though the squad that he supports is often the underdog, he is a true supporter of the team at all times.
The Saints are somehow tied to metal music, with their fanaticism, and being tied to a spooky city.
Metallica
One of the most successful metal bands in the history of this music genre also shares its support for football. This band was formed in 1981 in San Francisco, California, and since then has been climbing the top charts of music winning many Grammy Awards.
However, they have always shown interest in supporting their local sports teams, and in this case, they have shown great support to the Oakland Raiders, but we currently don’t know if they still support the team after their relocation to Las Vegas.
Kerry King
Kerry Ray King is an American musician and a co-led guitarist of the thrash metal band Slayer. He was one of the people that co-funded the band in 1981, and since then he remained a member for almost four decades.
Just like Metallica, Kerry King, and half of his crew at the Slayer are also Oakland Raiders fans – or at least they used to after the franchise packed its bags and moved out to Las Vegas.
Despite this move and renaming the team to Los Angeles Raiders, most people, including Kerry King still remained true fans. He is also often seen at concerts performing in a silver-and-purple Raiders jersey, and even though the team moved on to a different look, he still likes to wear that throwback jersey from their Oakland days.
So, as we can see, there are many metal artists that shared their love and passion for NFL teams. It seems like both industries have a lot more in common than most people think.
