The Levitation Hex – The Levitation Hex

Posted on May 5, 2013 by News Team

Levitation Hex coverAfter the collapse of Alchemist back in 2010 musical mastermind Adam Agius wasn’t quite ready to hang up his guitar and, thus, The Levitation Hex was born.

The self titled release picks up where Alchemist left off on 2007’s release Tripsis; taking the best elements of death, thrash, progressive and post metal and fusing them together to create something utterly mind blowing. Adding some psychedelic flourishes to the mix, the band ensures their listeners are kept on their toes. The album consists of one large composition divided into nine individual pieces. A daunting concept to the average human being, but for those with a taste for the complex and the extreme, tracks such as ‘The Longest Path Possible’ will leave a lasting impression.

Agius’ vocal style is extremely distinct and may be an acquired predilection but it certainly helps to make the offerings of The Levitation Hex a memorable experience. Each song on this record is cleverly crafted and a true display of skilled writing, both musically and lyrically.

A solid and mature first effort, full of adventurous and forward thinking extreme metal and respectable to see that Alchemist’s musical legacy lives on, albeit within a different package.

8.5/10
