Megadeth recently shared a firey new single and video for “Tipping Point” as the first music from their forthcoming self-titled final album due out in 2026 via Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s new BLKIIBLK label. While teasing out the track list for the new album, the band has revelaed the final track on their final album will be a cover of Dave Mustaine’s previous band Metallica, with “Ride The Lightning.” The decision to cover Metallica was hinted at in comments frontman Dave Mustaine made earlier this year to Norwegian radio station Stjernepose, where he hinted, “One of the songs is a cover song but I actually wrote it, so it’s kind of like a cover, kind of like my song.” Mustaine is officially credited as a co-writer on Metallica’s “Ride The Lightning” and “The Call of Ktulu.” Megedeth also has played “The Mechanix” often live – an early version of “The Four Horseman” from Kill Em All (Megaforce Records), and released a quasi-cover of that album’s classic track “Motorbreath” with “FFF (Fight For Freedom”) on 1997’s Cryptic Writings (Capitol Records). Megadeth will released on January 23rd, 2026.
