With Italians Forgotten Tomb headlining for Swedes Isole and Ereb Altor, tonight was all about three of the finest examples of modern doom, blackened doom and black metal. There is nothing healthier than seeing a venue rammed for an opening band at 7.30 pm. Isole is pure avant-garde brilliance, this unadulterated doom outfit sounds solid with their ‘The Lake’ and ‘By Blood’. They summon up a thunderous wall of sound, blending together muddy vocals and intricately layered guitar compositions. Bassist Jimmy Mattsson, guitarists Daniel Bryntse, and Crister Olsson’s drenched vocals hang in the air as an eerie calm descends over the venue. Fozzy & Drowning Pool – Live @ The Garage, London
Back with vengeance, with a new lead singer by the name of Jasen Moreno and with their fifth album, Resilience, all American stars Drowning Pool are taking over London tonight with a live show that establishes them once again in top shape. So many years have passed since their debut album Sinner, “the masterpiece”, and the premature, tragic death of Drowning Pool’s first, unforgettable frontman Dave Williams, but Resilience is definitely the word for this quartet that has so much to share with a loyal audience that was dying to welcome them back in the Capital. Insomnium & Moonspell – Live @ The Underground, London
Finnish melodic deathsters Insomnium might as well consider The Underworld as their London home: the way the quartet is welcomed tonight is, as always, simply overwhelming to say the least. After a successful 2011 that saw them reaching their highest pick with their stunning fifth album One For Sorrow and a series of live appearances including the support role to mighty Paradise Lost and their headlining European tour in 2012, the squad is ready to strike again, opening for Moonspell. Nothing seems to be short of flawlessness with their set since the very first instance that vocalist and bassist Niilo Sevänen stomps on the stage, with his captivating confidence of a true frontman.
