Josh Pappe, Early Bassist for D.R.I. Has Died, Age 53

Josh Pappe, Punk rock bassist who played on two crucial albums of Crossover Thrash for Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (D.R.I.) has died. He was 53. As of press time, no cause of death has been revealed. Pappe who was in D.R.I. from different periods from 1983 -1984, and 1985 -1998 and played on both Crossover and 4 of A Kind contributed to both legendary albums for the genre. Former Mercyful Fate Bassist Timi Hansen Dies After Cancer Battle, Aged 61

Sad news today as Heavy Metal legend and former Mercyful Fate bassist Timi Hansen has died after a long battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by his former bandmate, Mercyful Fate singer King Diamond, who shared the new on Facebook. The 61-year-old Hansen played in Mercyful Fate from 1981 to 1985 and again from 1992 to 1993. He was also a member of Kind Diamond from 1985 to 1987. Timi had to bow out of the previously announced 2020 Mercyful Fate reunion tour due to his illness. Hansen went public with his diagnosis in early August after it was announced that he wouldn’t participate. Filling in for him will be Armored Saint, Fates Warning, and Motor Sister bassist Joey Vera. On August 1, Timi released a statement via the Facebook page of Livia Zita-Bendix, wife of Kind Diamond, saying: “There are many questions about why I won’t appear as part of the Mercyful Fate reunion in 2020. The honest explanation is simply that I am currently fighting a fight against cancer. But believe me, I will fight everything I can to be ready. “It’s my big dream to be on stage again playing the old Mercyful Fate numbers in front of all of you very loyal fans. If this wasn’t going to happen, I’d like to ask you to take good care of Joey Vera. I totally agree with King that he is a perfect ‘stand-in,’ so take good care of him.”

Eddie Money, Chart-Topping 1980s Rock Singer, Dead at Age 70

Sad news as the singer with the golden voice known as “The Money Man”, Eddie Money has died after a brief bout with stage four esophageal cancer. He was 70 years old. Money whose career skyrocketed in the 1980s on the strength of hits such as ‘Baby Hold On,’ ‘Two Tickets to Paradise’, ‘Shakin’ and ‘Take Me Home Tonight’ was one of the most successful artists of the decade. Recently Money and his family starred in the reality TV show Real Money, which aired on AXS TV starting in April 2018. It chronicled his life at home and with his family, revealing his health struggles. Money is survived by his wife Laurie and five children, daughter, Jesse Money and sons Zachary, Joseph, Desmond, and Julian. His family shared a statement:Continue reading →


Punk Legend Pete Shelley, Frontman Of The Buzzcocks Dies At 63

Sad news last night as according to reports Pete Shelly singer of iconic punk rock band The Buzzcocks died suddenly after suffering a heart attack. He was 63. He was living in Estonia at the time of his death. As the frontman of one of the first wave UK punk bands in the 1970s, Shelley with his Buzzcocks mates innovated song-writing for punk, giving the embryonic genre many classic songs. Shelley went on to find success as a solo artist as well as activity with his main band. Pete’s music and legacy will live on in every punk band and every fan, for all time. Carsten Otterbach, Founding Member Of Morgoth Has Died

Sad news today as Carsten Otterbach, a founding member of Morgoth has died after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. He was 48. The guitarist also owned his own management company, Direct Management. Otterbach, played on Morgoth’s first five releases: Resurrection Absurd (1989) and The Eternal Fall (1990), Cursed (1991), Odium (1993) and Feel Sorry For The Fanatic (1996). Century Media Records co-founder Robert Kampf, released the following statement via his Facebook page: “With a very heavy heart, I learned that a close friend of 28 years, Carsten Otterbach, has passed. Carsten had a decade long battle with MS (multiple sclerosis). While he was a trooper and battled it hard for a long time, it was one of those battles that eventually take you down. I will always remember Carsten as a very sharp-minded, well-read, business-savvy and, at the same time, very fun-loving, tolerant and simply great guy. He will always live in my heart. Carsten fought very hard for his artists and was honorable as it gets. Legendary are the fights between my late partner Oliver Withöft and Carsten. The two of them fighting was scary if you were in the room, but always a fun story afterwards. Both were good friends and, unfortunately, did not make it to age 50. “Farewell, Carsten. You will not be forgotten and [will be] held in very high acclaim by your friends and by several generations of metal artist.”
