Bandcamp Will Donate 100% of Their Share of Sales Today to Support Racial Justice, Equality, and Change

In a story we continue to follow and support here at Ghost Cult, Bandcamp is donation 100% of their share of proceeds of any purchases on their platform today, Juneteenth the observance of the end of slavery in the United States. From midnight to midnight PDT, and every Juneteenth hereafter, for any purchase you make on Bandcamp, they will donate 100% of their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a national organization that has a long history of effectively enacting racial justice and change through litigation, advocacy, and public education. We’re also allocating an additional $30,000 per year to partner with organizations that fight for racial justice and create opportunities for people of color. This was sparked by the recent killings of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Sean Reed, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and the ongoing state-sanctioned violence against black people here and abroad. Watch Dead Cross Cover Black Flag’s Protest anthem “Rise Above” in Solidarity with Black Lives Matter

Dead Cross (Faith No More, ex Slayer, The Locust, Retox members) has been working on a new album for release at some point in 2020, but today they shared a cover as a new single. Black Flag’s searing ‘Rise Above’ has been covered by the band in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. The band shared a video and a mission statement for the track you can see here. 

Dead Cross – Rise Above (Black Flag cover) created in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and staunchly opposing police brutality and systemic racism. As such, the track opens with a recording of a Los Angeles resident voicing his displeasure with the LAPD during a public comment period from a regularly scheduled LA police commission meeting.

Rage Against The Machine’s Debut Album Returns to The Billboard 200 Charts on The Strength of Global Protests

Rage Against The Machine’s classic self-titled debut album has returned the Billboard 200 and theiTunes’ Top Albums chart, nearly 30 years since the LP was originally issued. The renewed interest in the effort comes in the wake of nationwide protests against police brutality following the police-involved death of George Floyd. According to Forbes, “Rage Against The Machine” landed at No. 174 on this week’s Billboard 200, and as of Thursday afternoon, it had reached No. 8 on iTunes’ Top Albums chart. Ghost Cult Magazine broke the news (and the internet) with the news the band was reuniting to play a series of benefits for families that are victims of ICE, as well as to headline Coachella 2020. Their 2020 worldtour is postponed to 2021 and Coachella has been canceled.
