Sludge Mother is the solo project of artist and songwriter Cami Petyn, who performs live with a consistent backing band she calls her sludge family: Mihailo Lukic and Soren the Guitarist on guitars, Livi Dillon on bass, and Joey Heck on drums. The live video for “Machine” was recorded and mixed by Jay Stolo at Straight Jacket Studios.
Debut EP How Can Anything Bloom? dropped in January and spans five tracks of heavy grunge and sludge metal across just under sixteen minutes. “I Don’t Want a Job” arrives as a defiant anti-corporate anthem, “Bloom” co-written with Tony Kim and Travis Miguel and produced by Jim Kaufman, shifts into mourning and rebellion territory inspired by George Orwell’s 1984, and “Antidote” brings visceral raw energy backed by grotesque visualizer imagery inspired by the symbolic use of teeth in Quentin Tarantino films. “Machine” sits among her top Spotify tracks, and closer “To Die Is to Live” rounds out the record at its longest and heaviest.
A limited 10-inch black vinyl edition ships May 11, available in two formats: 150 copies online via the official Sludge Mother store and 100 copies reserved for live shows. Cami Petyn signed the first 50 online purchases.
