Don commented:

“Dancing On My Father’s Grave” was the first song written for this album back in 2020.  At that time, I was nearing 50 and reflecting on my relationship with New Orleans, the city, and my father.  In New Orleans, there are Jazz Funerals, where people dance to send off the deceased.  I combined that with another bit of New Orleans folklore and finally put my feelings to music about the passing of my father.  It’s a bittersweet song from me to a guy I didn’t really hate to see go.”

Don will release additional singles in the coming weeks to support the album.

A physical release of the album is coming in 2026.

Drawing inspiration from artists like Marissa Nadler (Marissa is featured on the track “The Hearse They Rode In On” and mentored Don for this release), Emma Ruth Rundle, Kevn Kinney, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave, Don explores themes of conflict, mysticism, and the haunting beauty of his hometown of New Orleans. While not a concept album, the record reflects the city’s folklore and spiritual undercurrents that have fascinated the world for over three centuries.

“This album comes from a place so far down inside of me that I wouldn’t have dared go to in the past,” says Don. “Facing those emotions, stories, and life experiences head-on and putting them into music—it’s the proudest I’ve ever been of an album.”

Mentored and inspired by acclaimed dark folk artist Marissa Nadler, Don was pushed beyond his comfort zone. “Marissa came along when I needed it most,” he shares. “She offered guidance, inspiration, and tough love… she pushed me to challenge myself as a songwriter, player, and singer.”

Dancing on My Father’s Grave and Other Stories will be released via Dark Waters Records on November 14th, 2025 via Bandcamp, Ampwall, and all DSPs.

For fans of Marissa Nadler, Emma Ruth Rundle, and Nick Cave, Don de Leaumont delivers a sound steeped in folklore, shadow, light, and truth.
