If you spend a lot of time on Netflix, you’ve probably encountered the newly added movie called Security. We don’t pay attention to the year that much, but we actually thought that this movie was new, so we were a bit surprised knowing it was released in 2017. Directed by Alain Desrochers and written by Tony Mosher and John Sullivan, this movie is about an ex-marine during his first night shift as a security guard at a struggling shopping mall. Little does he know, this seemingly mundane job will turn into anything but a quiet evening.
If you’re planning to watch this movie, it should be available on other streaming platforms other than Netflix, such as Hulu, Dish TV, Sling TV, and more, since it’s a relatively older film. Going back to the story…
The main character, Eddie (played by the great Antonio Banderas), was getting a briefing from the night shift’s team head, Vance (played by Liam McIntyre) since it was his first night in. Vance is a loud, kind of over-the-top guy, but he’s just explaining the usual mall stuff: bored kids, sprinklers messing up, and the occasional shoplifter. Eddie, being this tough ex-soldier, doesn’t seem worried at all. But you can see in his eyes that he might be ready for something much bigger than a shoplifter or a leaky sprinkler – probably the effect of his previous work.
Once everything’s set and everybody’s doing their own thing, a young girl named Jamie (played by Katherine de la Rocha) suddenly appeared out of nowhere looking scared out of her mind. She’s running for her life, so she was begging for Eddie to let her in – which he did. This is the start of the exciting part, so make sure to have a stable internet connection like the one from HughesNet so you can really enjoy the movie.
Not long after, an old man went to the mall to ask for the young girl, claiming to be her father. Eddie isn’t buying it, but the rest of the team seems like they’re ready to hand over the girl. It’s a typical he-said-she-said scenario you often see on telenovelas on Spanish TV. Jamie woke up before she was handed over to the man and ran again inside the mall, so the security guards knew what’s up, at least partially. With that, they’ve decided to keep the girl safe no matter what, and that’s when the one of the longest nights of their lives started.
Overall, we’d rate it a solid 8/10. The movie was entertaining throughout, and the cast was spectacular. While the plot might not be the most original, the action sequences and how they used mall items to initially beat the mercenary was fun to watch. It has an IMDb rating of 5.7/10, but honestly, we think it deserves more.
