First wave post-hardcore band, Season to Risk, are set to get back on the road in the US late Fall, alongside Sisters. Following this year’s Record Store Day release of 1-800-Meltdown (Init Records), the band are also using these shows to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their sophomore record, In A Perfect World. Season To Risk have only gotten weirder over the years. Adding dark synth to their genre-blending mix of noise, math, and indie rock, the Kansas City-based band has significantly pushed the borders of the genres starting with the In A Perfect World album. “The experience of living with Martin Bisi for an entire Summer while making this record was an opportunity of a lifetime” – reflects Season To Risk singer Steve Tulipana. Over the course of the past 30 years, some of the songs off In A Perfect World became mainstays in live shows.“We’re hoping to bring back a few gems that we haven’t done in quite some time, maybe “Terrain Vague,” “Absolution,” or “Vertical Drive.””
Bisi, not only a true musical mastermind but also a prolific noise rock historian, brought knowledge to the band putting together what would become one of the 90’s cult classics. Their rhythm section has gone through multiple changes, at times including different members of Shiner, also from Kansas City, Missouri. Guitarist Duane Tower and singer Steve Tulipana have been constant players, along with David Silver since 1994, and Wade Williamson since 2000. “Ben Ruth has replaced Billy Smith on bass for the tour and the new recording we’re working on” explains Tulipana. “Ben is all around amazing musician and has filled in on tours in the past. He also played with Duane in Overstep since the early 2000’s, so there’s a great rapport and camaraderie.”
