If Andrew Stockdale was American, he’d be as popular as Dave Grohl, Jack White or Josh Homme. Like them, he is immensely talented and a pretty popular guy in his own right, based on the crowds on Wolfmother’s recent mini-tour of the USA. Stockdale and the band (drummer Hamish Rosser and bassist Brad Heald from The Vines) have been in Los Angeles recording at Grohl’s famed 606 Studio, recording the long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s Victorious album. Hopefully, we will have new Wolfmother music in 2020 to enjoy. In the meantime the crowd at Irving Plaza was packed for Monday, good news since the venue is going into hibernation soon for a renovation. Lionize was there as a rare strong opener. We’re curious as to why a headline band that hasn’t done a proper US tour in a decade didn’t have one piece of merch to sell. Still, the band played a long set of hits and deep cuts from all four of their albums, and so the feeling was mutual between the band and its fans. Come back soon guys!
