Psychic Graveyard Sign with Artoffact Records

Noise rock pioneers, Psychic Graveyard, have signed with Artoffact Records, joining the label family that contemporaries like KEN mode, Tunic, and more call home. According to the band’s social media announcement, new singles and release dates are coming soon. Keep reading below for more about the new signing.

On teaming up with Artoffact Records, the band comments: “We are pumped to be with Artoffact right now. We haven’t been this hopeful about an album in years and everyone at Artoffact has been amazing.

Simply checking the pedigrees (ex-Arab On Radar, Chinese Stars, Some Girls, Doomsday Student, and Hot Nerdz) will only get you so far with Psychic Graveyard. With a manic output of three full-length albums – Loud As Laughter, A Bluebird Vacation, and Veins Feel Strange – in nearly as many years, Psychic Graveyard makes consistently thrilling and unsettled sonic artifacts for a world emptied out and flattened by a joyless and sociopathic mediascape. But some things do stay consistent across their ruptured anti-aesthetic: Charles Ovett’s relentless workflow on the drums; the burbling sawtooth substructures, grimy lead synths, and deconstructed guitars supplied by Nathan Joyner and Paul Vieira; and, of course, vocalist Eric Paul’s many narrators and personas, who find form as ghosts howling from within the machine or as agitated surrealists living lives huddled in the grimmest of redoubts.

On top of the band’s three full-length albums, they have also released a split LP with USA Nails (Split), and two EPs (The Next World + Mouths). According to the band, their writing process is a little out of the box. San Diego-based Joyner sends files filled with the skeletons of songs to Vieira and Paul in Providence, RI, and Ovett in Charlotte, NC. The three members add their parts, and then the songs undergo an arduous back and forth until everyone agrees on the final version. The distance between them and the anomalous approach to writing results in diverse, yet coherent recordings that pick the listener up and drop them off at dramatically different places. Like nerve endings spliced and sewn back together, the process spawned a whole new auditory system – which serves as the infrastructure for Psychic Graveyard.
