Hawkwind’s great founder Nik Turner has died. He was  82. Turner’s passing was confirmed by a post on his Facebook page, with a statement you can read below. With over sixty years in rock history, Nik was one of the greats of psychedelic rock, helping develop the genre with Hawkwind and dozens of other projects over the years. He continued to release new albums and perform right up until the last few years. Not just an accomplished lyricist and visionary artist, Nik also played Saxophone, Flute and was a masterful entertainer. RIP to a legend. 

The statement reads: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nik Turner – The Might Thunder Rider, who passed away peacefully at home on Thursday evening. He has moved onto the next phase of his Cosmic Journey, guided by the love of his family, friends and fans. Watch this space for his arrangements.”
