Residents of Virginia have waited a long time for a heavy metal concert of this caliber, and it certainly won’t disappoint. Pantera performed several shows in The Old Dominion during their initial run together — including at the Hampton Coliseum on June 29, 1996, at Virginia Beach’s Peppermint Beach Club on Nov. 20, 1991 and at the Amphitheater on July 10, 2000.

About Pantera

The beloved band was founded in 1981, and they have sold over 20 million copies worldwide. After the band split due to several disagreements in 2003, two tragedies unfolded.

“Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, Pantera’s guitarist, was killed in a Columbus, Ohio nightclub by a troubled fan. 14 years later, Vinnie Paul Abbott, Darrell’s younger brother, died at the age of 54 from heart failure. Vinnie Paul was the co-founder and drummer for the band.

Bassist Rex Brown and vocalist Phil Anselmo announced their plans last year to reunite the band. Finally, after a wait of more than two decades, Pantera reunited for a live show in Toluca, Mexico on Dec. 2 of last year.

Zakk Wylde, known for his role as Ozzy Osbourne’s lead guitarist, is the guitarist on the reformed Pantera group. Charlie Benante, the drummer for Anthrax, will continue performing for Pantera on the drums for the remaining 2023 and scheduled 2024 shows.
