Nightborn explains “Hallucinations do not belong only to the insane. “Temporal Nightmare” is about strange sensations, sudden chills, instincts or feelings that we sometimes get, that feel so real – like seeing a doppelganger, a shadowy figure, a feeling of a phantom that is not there, a slight movement in the mirror or having that familiar sensation of a presence that is near you even though you are alone in the dark. It can also be seen as an homage to night terrors or nightmares that we might go through in the night – stuck in a horrifying state between the world of dreams and conscious reality, unable to escape. A deeply embedded fear that might go all the way back to someone’s childhood – a primal fear. All of this boils down to the mysteries of the human mind which the song tries to explore and capture.”
For the video of “Temporal Nightmare” the band’s vocalist, Arda K, got together with a very close friend and horror movie director Can Evrenol, who appeared in Cannes Festival recently. Their friendship goes back many years. Finding that his most infamous movie (Baskin – which happens to be the Arda’s favorite) contained certain visuals and moments that could be recut and rearranged in order to materialize the nightmarish world that the song describes; they started working on bringing it to life. The band and the director thought using these materials from a completely novel perspective would also re-explore and redefine the themes that are existent in his movies.
The video contains the exploration of an abandoned/derelict structure enveloped in darkness. As the viewer goes deeper in, more fears and nightmares are unleashed. It is a metaphor for an ominous journey that dives deeper into the darker corners of one’s mind. As we reach those darkest depths, there is no longer any hope for a way back and the strange creatures, demons, familiars, witches and pure evil takes over. The key to exit this hellish void seems to be buried in a place that can never be retrieved.
Temporal Nightmare:
“Boundaries of unnerved, grievous sleep
Hangs on glass wings of misty morn
Saw yourself float, pulling the ropes
From gateways of unknown
Humanlike figure beckons below
Pacified, helpless, untold
Whom should you trust and whom could you know
Involuntary sense of terror
Winter is bleak
Mystery creed
Dreams are of sorrow
Mind’s diseased
Removed from light
Shrouded in rime
Days in decay
The twin disobeys
In company of night hags and lowborn witches
Perceptual aberrations and ghosts
Bizarre forms enter, in odd repetitions
In near sleep state it’s adorned
Winter is bleak
Mystery creed
Dreams are of sorrow
Mind’s diseased
Removed from light
Shrouded in rime
Days in decay
The twin disobeys
New doom embraces
In a crystal maze
Temporal nightmares
Caught in death’s gaze
Conjuring a dreamside entity
Absence of external reality
Bubonic pests and esoteric spawns
Aligned in darkness’ duality
Winter is bleak
Mystery creed
Dreams are of sorrow
Mind’s diseased
Removed from light
Shrouded in rime
Sensory decay
Your being’s replaced”

More from Nightborn:
Nightborn is a thrash metal band formed in 2012 by Arda K. that initially started as a one-man project – though some of the compositions go even further back. Nightborn focused on producing melodic thrash metal in the veins of old school sound blended with the style of the revival scene. Nightborn’s first album Skyeless was released in 2017 and was mastered in Fascination Street Studios, Sweden which previously worked with artists such as Kreator, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity and Sepultura. The album cover art was done by Eliran Kantor and singles artwork were by Maximillan Mende. Nightborn’s lyrics often deal with politically anti-system sentiments, the allure of dying and death, somberness, desperation, hatred and rage, serial killers and murder, the dark nature of human mind, nightmares and the night itself.
The band’s second album, Unhuman was released in 2022 and was also mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios. The album consists of fast, unrelenting thrash metal for the fans of great bands such as Slayer, Testament, Kreator, Sepultura and Exodus with additional dark melodic elements. Just like Skyless, all lyrics and music were arranged, written, composed and performed by the frontman Arda K. All the drum parts on Unhuman were performed by Krimh of Septic Flesh, Decapitated and Behemoth. Additional guitar edits were carried out by Gokalp Ergen, the vocalist of Mezarkabul. After the 2022 release of Unhuman, Nightborn started to prepare for live performances and touring by expanding the band’s line-up with veteran metal musicians, all of whom have been active in the metal scene since early 2000’s. Next up is the release of Nightborn’s EP Hammer of the Heretic, produced by Pavel Daniels and due out September 2024 featuring all brand new material.
