New Sister Rosetta Tharpe Documentary Released by Gibson Guitars

Shout Sister, Shout! Sister Rosetta Tharpe is the name of the new documentary on the life of guitar rock and roll founding Mother, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, debuted by Gibson Guitars via their Youtube channel, GibsonTV.  Named after the biography of the same name by author Gayle F Wald, the doc spotlights the underrated legacy of this rock guitar pioneer. Gibson also just reissued the model guitar Sister Rosetta Tharpe exclusively played which you can check out here. The Gibson TV doc can be seen below.

Her work predates other guitar legends like Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry. Narrated and produced by guitarist Celisse (Lizzo), and also features Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter/guitarist Amythyst Kiah. She was the first musician to headline a stadium at her own wedding to 25,000 people at Griffith Stadium in Washington DC.  In 2017, there was a musical called Shout Sister Shout! Which starred broadway actor, Tracy Nicole Chapman. In 2018 She was finally inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. Ironic for someone who helped create the genre. She died from a stroke in 1973 and Tharpe was buried in an unmarked grave in Philadelphia. In the intervining years, that was rectified.
