Considered by the band as one of the most heart wrenching songs off the album, producer/rapper, Raul Lopez says: ““Some Things” was written about realizing that maybe it’s best to let the ones you love go in order for you both to move forward in your life.”
“Some Things” was written at a time in our career where I believe we were the most lost, mad, and vulnerable,” Lopez expands. “The guys and I had a lot of life altering things happen, and writing music was becoming very difficult. Despite those feelings, we decided to take a writing trip to Los Angeles and got help getting our emotions out with our music. Working with our friend Josh Landry (LoSpirit) easily became the best session of the trip. Starting with a simple conversation about life and what we were going through, Landry truly helped us say what we’ve been wanting to say all along and helped us turn all those thoughts into music.”
Recorded in sessions across Los Angeles, Nashville, Memphis and their home state of Florida, the making of Nevertel’s new album marks a significant shift for the trio. Internally produced with Raul Lopez at the reigns, they also brought in outside collaborators for the first time, including Dave Cowell (Sleep Theory) and Gianni Taylor (Bring Me The Horizon). Coming from a DIY background, the band found the experience to be a valuable learning opportunity that helped them grow as musicians. A key aspect of this collaboration was an unconventional songwriting approach where sessions began with conversations rather than music, which allowed for lyrical growth that enabled the band to address themes deeper than ever. As they reflected on their triumphs and failures, their personal experiences, their shared childhood, and their chance at a new beginning, the songs that would be Start Again grew to reflect their shared journey.
Considered by the band “a record we’ve been trying to write for years,” the collection of music that make up Start Again are puzzle pieces of older and newer ideas spurred by the Nevertel crew. During the writing process, the band noticed a recurring thread of crashing, burning, and new beginnings, born of songs like “Starting Over” which has roots as far as four years back. Undergoing multiple transformations before finding its final form, the songs were scrapped, revisited, and reworked, mirroring the lyrical narrative Nevertel displays throughout the record.
United in 2014 by an unbreakable bond and a shared passion for music, Nevertel leads with an emphasis in quality in everything they do. They currently sustain over 125 Million catalog streams (1.4M weekly) and continue to build on their online community of over 600K social media followers. After independently releasing multiple albums, EPs and singles, they signed to Epitaph Records in 2024 and saw another dream become reality. Now with their new album Start Again, the band are on a mission to inspire other people to make great changes in their lives.
