My Favourite Concert Memory – Philip Strand of Normandie

Normandie introduced themselves in 2016 with their impressive debut Inguz (InVogue) With follow-up White Flag due out on 26 October 2018 on EasyLife, vocalist Philip Strand of the progressive, anthemic Rock act talked us through his live experience of Muse, and their direct impact on his band…

“Back in 2009, me and my best friend bought some smuggle-wine and kept it hidden inside our winter jackets as we stood in line to see Muse for the first time. I had barely heard them but he insisted that I should join him. Through an iPhone 3G’s blown speakers he showed me ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ and nodding my head as I shugged down the red wine like it was water in Sahara.

I couldn’t imagine what was gonna go down inside that 8,000 capacity arena, and I don’t know if it was my premature brain being drunk for the 2nd time ever – or if it just was the best band in the world.”

“Fast forward six years and I’m once again buzzing from red wine that I’ve smuggled into the festival area of Bråvalla Festival in Sweden, this time putting the wine bag in my underwear like a diaper – disgusting, I know.

Muse are on stage and my best friends are surrounding me. This time I know every single song they play and I’m filled with so much inspiration and later that year we record our debut album Inguz and Normandie as we know it today takes form…”
