Living With Lions have released their new album, Island, out today via Redfield Records. We caught up with frontman Chase Brenneman to learn about his favorite concert memory in his life.
The very first big concert I ever went to in my life was a festival in Vancouver called ‘Edge Fest’. Up until that point, the only shows I had ever been to were smaller local shows in my hometown Courtenay on Vancouver Island. My friends and I were all 15 and convinced our parents to let us go to Vancouver and stay with my cousin, who said he would take us to the show. The year we went Blink 182, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, Good Charlotte and a bunch of other bands were playing. It was right after Blink 182 released ‘Take Off Your Pants and Jacket’.. definitely my favourite band at the time. My cousin gave me his old ID so I finally had my first fake ID and we spent the weekend going out to bars for the first time ever. I think the ID said I was 27 or something.. I looked nothing like my cousin. I don’t know how it worked for so long. I remember just before Blink went on my friend Kale and I went up as close as we could get to the stage… I’m a pretty small dude, especially at that time, and as soon as they started I thought I was going to die. The crowd was so jam-packed I couldn’t move. I was just getting pushed down and squished, I felt like I couldn’t breathe. It was super scary. I managed to get the attention of some big dude that was squished up next to me and screamed at him to boost me up. There was no way I was getting out of there unless I crowd surfed. So the dude grabbed me and hoisted me up on the crowd and I crowd-surfed to the front of the stage. Right before security grabbed me, Mark Hoppis looked at me and I flipped him the bird… It was awesome and that dude that threw me on the crowd saved my life. One of my favourite concerts of all time.
