Thanks to a report from Lambgoat, legendary MTV VJ and music media personality Matt Pinfield, best known for hosting shows like 120 Minutes has been finally released from the ICU, and entered a rehab facility. This comes just a few months after suffering a massive stroke. In an exclusive, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Pinfield has been discharged from the ICU and is now in a rehab facility located in Los Angeles. The rest of his care, after he leaves rehab at the end of March, will continue to recover with outpatient facility care. Pinfield plans to “get back to his radio shows and doing what he loves, entertaining people playing music” despite being aware that his doctors did not initially expect him to recover, talk or walk ever again, and many friends came to pay their respects to him thinking he was going to die. Pinfield, who has had a career that includes hosting Total Request Live (TRL), syndicated Radio, SiriusXM, his own TV show, podcasting, Twitch streaming and serving as VP of A&R at Columbia Records, among other things. His daughters, Jessica and Maya, filed for a temporary conservatorship, expressing concerns over their father’s ability to manage his health and finances. This is not the first tragedy Pinfield has experienced, as he nearly died crossing the street in a hit-and-run accident in December of 2018. Read some comments from Matt!
“Guys, I’m alive. I’m recovering and am going to come back swinging. I was unresponsive for two months. Friends were thinking they were coming to see me for the last time. The doctors never expected me to speak or to walk again.”
“My friends said I went on about ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ and how they couldn’t keep up with what I was saying. They were, like, ‘Yeah, he’s still got that brain.'”
“I want to say how great grateful I am for all the people that that were wishing me well. The love of the community helped me get through this.”
“I’m definitely going to take some time to recover,” he says. “Then I’ll do my radio shows again and get back to work doing what I love, which is to entertain people playing music.”
On the day of his stroke, Pinfield posted the following via Instagram:
Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted. Here to another week-another day-open heart and open mind. Let’s rock!
