Metallica has added new material to their celebration of all things St. Anger (Blackened Recordings) with their online archival project “The Black Box!” With “20 Years of Anger – St. Anger Anniversary Exhibition” The album that nearly broke up the band and divided the fans still holds a place in Metallica’s history, and the new exhibition shares much of the content from that era, as well as never-before-seen stuff too. In addition to new virtual relics, the store has even more new St. Anger released merch and artifacts you can buy if this is your jam. At its release twenty years ago, St. Anger was met with both ecstatic praise and harsh criticism. The album endures as an expression of the volatile period Metallica was experiencing, delivered via heavy tracks with deeply vulnerable lyrics. James Hetfield referred to St. Anger as “jam-packed with energy, excitement, vulnerability, brokenness, and intensity,” and a “near-death experience,” that gave Metallica “extra life.”
The Black Box invites you to “hit the lights on these dark sets” and take a fresh look at St. Anger.
The Black Box is proud to present our newest exhibit, “20 Years of Anger.” The exhibit marks the 20th anniversary of St. Anger’s release and celebrates this raw, rebellious album’s foray into expressing negative emotions in a more positive way. Rare videos, photos, and artifacts highlight this first release of our two-part exhibit. Step into the Black Box and confront “20 Years of Anger.”
