Finally after about ten years, Light This City returned to New York City! With the release of their new album ‘ Terminal Bloom (Creator-Destructor) earlier in the year and a highly successful west coast tour, the east gets the same treatment. I got there just in time to catch Brooklyn’s own hardcore titans, Apparition threw down with an intense set, with Behind the Bullet drummer Tony Ortiz filling in.
Next up is LTC label mates, Gygax. This is the second time I’ve seen them and holy hell are they good. Dungeons and Dragons themed Rock n Roll!? They’re catchy as all hell and at points remind you of Thin Lizzy. You can’t beat that with a 20 sided icosahedron.
When LTC took the stage, they played a wave of old and new throughout the night. Opening with a hell of a scream from singer Laura, the rip right into ‘Reality in Disarray’ They were joined by Wilderness Dream bassist, Bret Fontaine filling in on this tour. Pounding through classics like ‘The Unwelcome Savior’ and the current single off the new album, ‘Agents of Fate’, the crowd thrashed, the band raged behind some monster riffs and power grooves. Behind all this heaviness you could see the pure joy on all their faces. It’s great to see them live and I hope there’s more next year!
