Here we go Gizzoids!!
We got three new albums ready for y’all to hit that pre order button on.
1: LAMINATED DENIM
2: CHANGES
3: ICE, DEATH, PLANETS, LUNGS, MUSHROOM AND LAVA
‘Laminated Denim’ was the first one we finished. After we did ‘The Dripping Tap’ we started getting together again more and more in the studio to jam, click record and see what came of it. It was a great therapeutic routine to get into after spending so long at home staring at the wall during lockdown. We had so much fun making LD that we decided to continue working in this way.
‘Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushroom and Lava’ was a result of taking this concept even further. Each day we would go into the studio, pick a key and mode to play in. The jams would last about 4 hours or so then Stu would take the recordings away and condense it down into a song by cutting up all the best bits. Eventually we went through each of these modes:
Mycelium – Major scale
Ice V = Dorian
Magma = Phyrigian scale
Iron Lung = Aeolian scale
Hells itch = Mixolydian scale
Lava = Lydian scale
Gliese 710 = Locrian scale
Once the songs were starting to take shape we decided to take this collaborative approach a step further by encouraging everyone to write lyrics. Stu picked the subject matter for each song and we all threw in our own different interpretations of it. This was really exciting to see everyone get involved and throw in their two cents.
‘Changes’ came together in a whole other different way to this. I remember Stu coming up with the initial idea for the track ‘Change’ where he was starting to fiddle around with the idea of changing between D and F#. Little did we know that later on down the track that the whole record was going be built around this idea. It all began way back in June 2017 at the start of our European tour at the time. Check out this photo I took of him at the time when he was constantly playing around on our practice Yamaha reface keyboard on our tour bus.
Here’s a few more pics from a few of the recording sessions for ‘Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushroom and Lava’, ‘Laminated Denim’ and ‘Changes’ from 2020 and 2021.

ICE V CLIP – 1ST SINGLE FOR ‘ICE, DEATH, PLANETS, LUNGS, MUSHROOM AND LAVA’.
My god our boy Joey came through with the goods on this one!
It’s one of my favourite Gizz clips yet. It’s like some sort of bent episode of Getaway.
So about a month ago or so we had just made the tough decision to cancel our Europe tour back at the start of August when we remembered Danny Cohen had already flown over to Europe from Australia to meet us in a few days to film a clip for ‘Ice V’. Danny was going to come on the road with us for a few weeks and film a clip for the track over a few weeks. We were at the airport waiting for our flight to Prague to play the last show when we called Danny to tell him the news. Joe was still planning on staying in Europe whilst the rest of us were going to head home. Danny was very into Joe’s super euro look and decided he wanted to make the clip with only him. Luckily Joe stepped up the plate and delivered an incredible performance of Billy Elliot 2 as he danced his way through Hydra, Greece over a few days. I’ll have what he’s having thanks 😉
“All I could do was just keep rolling, watch and giggle as Joe danced his big, beautiful heart out”
Danny Cohen.
“This was a big one for me. I had to abandon my ego and dance in public for 12 hours in the scorching hot Greek sun. Let’s just hope that the bride and groom of the 100 person wedding I performed in front of felt like I didn’t steal too much of their limelight.”

ON THE ROAD AGAIN.
Gizz is getting back on the road again very soon and this one has been a hell of a long time in the making.
The three big Red Rocks show plus all the other North American cities that have been waiting patiently since we announced this juggernaut back in 2019. We also decided recently we couldn’t leave our beloved home country behind in the mix so we’ve added a few extra shows as well as a little visit to New Zealand over New Years. THE MURLOCS ALBUM NO. 6, ‘RAPSCALLION’
Last little shameless self promotion for our brother band Uncle Murl. Amongst all this Gizzy wizz mayhem we also have a new album coming out on September 16th. It’s our first ever concept album and some critics have been calling it ‘a novel in album form’. Lead guitarist Cal Shortal came through with the goods on this one. He wrote all the music and I wrote the lyrics to his beautiful rugged chaos. It’s by far our best yet and I couldn’t be happier. I hope you all dig. Hit up our website unclemurl.com for all the latest updates and click a subscribe to our newsletter if you want to receive more love letters from my rambling scrambled egg brain.
Much love, sweat and tears from yours forever truly,
