Kayo Dot Signs With Prophecy Productions

Kayo Dot, led by Avant-garde experimentalist Toby Driver has signed to the Prophecy Productions label. Formed in 2003 by the members of the legendary metal band, maudlin of the well, the band has carved out a high-minded musical aesthetic ranging from free-form Jazz to epic black metal. Frontman Driver’s list of collaborators includes names like Randall Dunn (WITTR, Myrkur, Sunn 0))), Secret Chiefs 3 (Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle), John Zorn, and G. Stuart Dahlquist (Burning Witch, Asva), among many others. His solo work includes collaborations with Brian Chase of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as well as his touring outfit Piggy Black Cross. Further announcements are expected about a new Kayo Dot release on Prophecy in the future.

On signing with Prophecy, Driver commented:

I’m very happy and optimistic about working with Prophecy going forward. In the past few years my experiences have, in many ways, brought my musical life full-circle to the scene I began in with maudlin of the Well, having dipped out and in throughout time. Kayo Dot has in our career, due to our unclassifiable nature, been able to exist in several different scenes at once and every few years we explore one scene, then explore another, these seemingly disparate communities that are now increasingly mixing. We’ve always felt like outsiders, however. Forming a relationship with Prophecy and also becoming more closely connected with some of the major players in the European metal scene has brought up a lot of feelings that, although I haven’t engaged with in many years, still feel like home and family. We’re extremely excited to have this opportunity to bring our music to a wider audience and contribute to this universe in a positive, unique, and progressive way, and we thank Prophecy and everyone involved for believing in us, and we thank Jonathan at The Flenser for encouraging us to make this move.”

Kayo Dot will be appearing at Prophecy Fest USA along with Alcest playing Kodama in full, Eye Of Nix, Xasthur, Novembers Doom, Year Of The Cobra, Volur, Crowhurst, 1476, So Hideous and more. Get tickets here.
