GUEST POST: Mark Starr of Insight – Top Albums of the Year 2020

Ghost Cult continues our “End of Year Guest Post Extravaganza” with a slew of posts from bands, industry, PR pros, and more! We’ll be sharing lists, memories, and other shenanigans from our favorite bands, partners, music industry peers, and other folks we respect across the globe. In this edition, we have a list from Mark Starr of hardcore veterans Insight. Stream their compilation/retrospective Reflection here via Mission Two Entertainment.

Fuzz – Fuzz lll

Another project from Ty Segall. It’s a good blend of heavy, bluesy, fuzzed-out rock

Nothing- The Great Dismal

Having all their releases, this one follows in true Nothing form. Heavy loud dreamy music. Another band that falls in Split Moon territory or is it the other way around? Either way great new album.

Two bands I had to put in as a tie:

Cro Mags – In The Beginning

Long time fan of Cro-Mags. It’s not the Cro-Mags I prefer being that I’m part of the OG line-up. Also my favorite Cro-Mag (not OG but awesome drummer, also a friend) – Pete Hines. With that said this album also has one of my fave hardcore/metal guitarist Rocky George. This album is just pure raw intensity!

Locked Inside – Force Of Will

This is a great NYC hardcore band. All members come from another great hardcore lineage.

Supercrush – Sodo Pop

This is a great pop album!! Reminds me of Teenage Fanclub. Singer Mark Palms has been Modern Charms as well as in hardcore bands.

The Flaming Lips – American Head

This is an awesome recorded album!! Such great layers, very inspiring for my band Split Moon
