Ghost Cult once again brings you “End Of Year” lists, memories, and other shenanigans from our favorite bands, partners, music industry peers, and other folks we respect across the world. Kenny Sehgal Of Mirror Queen shares his list of Top 10 New York City Rock Bands of All Time!

“Top 10 NYC rock bands of all time”

My 10 top NYC bands, in no particular order (except the first). I’ve included bands that were from nearby, but made NYC a hub of their activity and were enmeshed with the scene. Also acts that can be claimed by a few towns, but did the preponderance of their best work here (in my opinion).

Blue Öyster Cult – Enough has been said about this Long Island band, yet still overlooked.

Raging Slab – Record labels didn’t know what to do with em, nor did the public in the late 80s/early 90s.

Mountain – People have forgotten they hail from Long Island, and trod the boards in the city.

The Dictators – Still love seeing these legends.

The Left Banke – The out of print collection “There’s Gonna be a Storm” is a great album in its own right, sounds like 60s NYC to me.

The Silos – Formed here, seen em lots here, so NYC to me.

Jimi Hendrix – Recorded at Electric Ladyland. And which city can wholly claim Jimi as its own anyway?

Swans – How to choose a song, hmm?

Kiss – They suck, they’re great (fun).

The Barnyard Playboys – Drinking buddies, I love small bands in small clubs in the big city.

Bonus: Madonna – listeners choice, sorry.
