A fence collapsing and injuring concertgoers were was mistaken for gunshots at today’s Global Citizen Festival at Central Park in New York City today. As reported by The Associated Press and other news outlets, the collapse of a police barrier sent thousands of spectators fleeing in panic at the celebrity filed event featuring pop music stars and political figures and activists.
About 60,000 people had filled the park’s Great Lawn for the eight-hour festival. They listened to big-name personalities from Democratic who all urged spectators to get involved in the nation’s troubled politics. Metallica headlined the event in 2016.
