Fontaines D.C. Share Their Single and Video for “Bug”

Fontaines D.C. have released a music video for their track, “Bug,” directed by Andrea Arnold (American Honey, Fish Tank, Cow). The video is a shortform reimagination of Arnold’s forthcoming film Bird and includes exclusive footage. “Bug” is taken from the band’s fourth album, Romance, released via XL Recordings on August 23rd. Of the “Bug” video, Fontaines D.C.’s own Carlos O’ Connell says, “Andrea Arnold was kind enough to cut up a sequence to our tune Bug featuring Barry Keoghan playing the character Bug in her new movie Bird. Bug’s a song that happened quickly and convinced everyone quicker. In my eyes, the character Bug, the tattoo “Bug’s Life,” Andrea’s essential & romantic worlds, and the line ‘Changed my name to “Promise you, Yea”’; when put all together make convincing needless & conviction undeniable. Big thanks to Andrea Arnold for letting us in so close to her visionary universe. She’ll be remembered how we remember Bacon or Goya.

“Bug” is the latest in a line of world-building videos from the Dublin band. In April they released the bombastic first track from the new album, “Starburster” to international acclaim. It was released alongside the much-talked about music video from Aube Perrie, a conceptual world that continues to reveal itself across an unfolding metaverse. The follow-up single and shimmering album finalé “Favourite” was accompanied by a beautiful self-directed video while for “Here’s The Thing” and “In The Modern World,” the band collaborated with hotly-tipped filmmaker Luna Carmoon (Hoard, Shagbands).

Released theatrically in the UK and US this Friday November 8th via distributor, streaming service and production company MUBI, “Bird” features remarkable performances from Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), Franz Rogowski (Passages), and newcomer Nykiya Adams as the latest in the filmmaker’s canon of indelible heroines alongside newcomer Jason Buda. “Bird” also sees Carlos O’Connell making his big screen debut while Fontaines D.C.’s music feature prominently in the film’s soundtrack. Romance is Fontaines D.C.’s biggest album to date. The James Ford-produced record has been met with an incredible response from fans and critics alike. The 11-track masterpiece presents a bold leap forward for the band, weaving together ideas that have been percolating among Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass), and Tom Coll (drums) since their acclaimed 2022 release, Skinty Fia.

2024 has been a massive year for the GRAMMY-nominated and BRIT Award-winning Irish band. In June, Fontaines D.C. performed a defining show at Glastonbury’s Park Stage and followed it up with another widely lauded performance at Reading & Leeds Festival. In August, they announced their biggest ever headline show, a now sold-out 45,000 capacity event at London’s Finsbury Park. They also recently announced an extensive North American tour for 2025.
