FESTIVAL PREVIEW: Louder Than Life 2017

The fall music festival season in the USA continues this weekend with the annual Louder Than Life festival at Champions Park, Louisville KY, bringing rock and metal bands in an Open Air style concert, together with premium experiences, and all the amazing food and drinks the city of Louisville has become known for, that being barbecue, bourbon and much more. Once again the fest is brought to fans by Danny Wimmer Presents, who have mastered the art of partying with festivals like Rock On The Range, Rocklahoma, Carolina Rebellion, Aftershock Sacramento, Chicago Open Air and many more.

Campers will arrive today to the sold out pitches, in a throwback to some of the great European music festivals where this is commonplace. The entire layout of the fest is geared towards an immersive experience, but also one where you will want for nothing all weekend long. The organizers have taken a lot of care to have the big difference-making fun-tivities, but also all the little things that keep a fans’ interest.

Meanwhile, over 35 bands will take over 3 stages on two days, giving fans one of the strongest lineups in memory. On Saturday – some of the early bands you must see include Palisades, He Is Legend, DED, New Years Day, and the breakout band Starset. Some of these bands coming from the Zorn stage are full of tomorrows’ legends such as Fire From The Gods. Over on the Monster Energy Stage, the reformulated Of Mice And Men, look to continue to convert new fans and satisfy their die-hards with bassist Aaron Pauly as the frontman.

From there it’s all heavy hitters like Hollywood Undead, Halestorm, Eagles of Death Metal, Gojira (playing one of their final shows on their Magma album cycle), Mastodon and Five Finger Death Punch, who is rejoined by frontman Ivan Moody. Of course, Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osborne with Zakk Wylde make day one just phenomenal for the fans.

Sunday follows form with Saturday with tomorrows’ big names kicking things off in style. Black Map, Biters, Great Van Fleet, and Joyous Wolf may not be house hold names yet, but they will be. Beartooth is no stranger to the festival circuit, and they always bring their A-game. Falling In Reverse, Nothing More, with their huge new album, and Radkey bring up the middle portion of the day. Thrice is not often seen on these fests and make a welcome addition. Finally, the star power of The Pretty Reckless, Lacuna Coil, In This Moment and Stone Sour is shown by the fact that they could all headline other fests or shows in some cases.

The weekend will be closed out by powerhouse bands Rise Against, hit-making Incubus and the incendiary Prophets of Rage. All three have a different flavor and strengths, but each promises to rock the place to the ground.
