New Orleans post-doom quartet Fauns has released the first single, “Ashen,” off of their upcoming sophomore EP Surcease, which drops independently next month. Channeling the entire history of the genre with their bludgeoning girthy riffs, grotesquely wonderful vocals, and key atmospherics’ Faun’s two-song EP clocks in at over twenty-one minutes with two impressive tracks. Pre-orders are live now at their Bandcamp page, for limited-run cassettes and digital streaming. Listen to the track here:
Formed in 2018 in a proletarian ward of New Orleans, Fauns offers a grievous blend of down-tuned riffs and virulent growls enveloped in a sea of dense atmosphere. With lyrics expressing deep disgust and utter disappointment in humanity, the quartet explores themes related to the human condition, the ways of man, and his inability to change course.
The band recently wrapped up the recording of Surcease with James Whitten (Thou, Eyehategod, Faustian) and is readying to release the colossal two-track EP independently on May 5.
