São Paulo Death Thrash band Demophobia has dropped a crushing new single and lyric video for the track “O Chamado” today, here at Ghost Cult! Produced by Alcides Burn the video helps tell an inportant moment in Brazilian political history: the struggle of workers in the ABC Paulista region between 1979 and 1981 for a better quality of life and greater participation in the country’s political life. The single was recorded at the traditional Family Mob studio in São Paulo with production by Hugo Silva (Surra e Desalmado) and is a fierce banger! Check it out!

“The two-year pandemic made the scenario very uncertain. We didn’t know what to expect from this return, as some of the band’s plans were postponed”, comments bassist João Medeiros. “However, we realized that in order to come back we would need a cohesive material, something that would put us on another level and that would show that we are not stuck in time. We needed to take a step further within our essence. Because of this, recording “O Chamado” gave us much more dedication and several new experiences, both in terms of composition, recording and production”.
Formed in mid-2018, in the ABC Paulista region, the band Demophobia brings in its essence the mixture and weight of thrash and death metal with the aggressiveness of punk, with its lyrics sung in Portuguese.
Demophobia seeks to create its own style and, through its theme and sound, make clear the tangle of political-social relations in Brazilian society. The band’s name comes from the ancient Greek, where Demo means ‘People’ and Phobos ‘fear’, thus representing the fear that the economic elite has of the people, or, simply, of democracy.
With Rafael Vieira (vocals), Paulo Vitor (guitar), João Medeiros (bass) and Arthur Henrique (drums), the group released their first work in April 2019, the EP ‘Moinhos de Gastar Gente’ (available on all digital platforms, for free download on Bandcamp and also on physical CD). The band’s first work had the support of three labels, one from ABC (Brutal Grind), one from São Paulo (Die Hard Records) and one from Manaus (Manaós).
In 2019, it performed 13 shows, in the regions of ABC, São Paulo, São José dos Campos, Suzano and Jandira. Having played alongside bands like Amorfo, Trassas, Red Razor and Anthares. In February 2020 the band released the single “Modus Operandi”. Like the EP “Moinhos de Gastar Gente”, the song was recorded in São Bernardo do Campo, at the Toca do Chico Preto studio, with production by Victor Prospero.
The band is also working on pre-production on their first album, to be released in the second half of 2022.
