EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Mike Skill (The Romantics) – “So Soul Alone”

Most people know Mike Skill as the guitarist and co-founder of The Romantics and their major hits “What I Like About You” and “Talking In Your Sleep.” Mike is taking these hallmarks from his successful career, buoyed by his slick songcraft, penchant for musical storytelling,  and his distinctive,  voice on the guitar, but also as a singer and is releasing his debut full-length, self-titled solo album later this year. Check out his brand new single “So Soul Alone,” a fun throwback track with a great vibe and hook, here at Ghost Cult.

Mike comments:

“I wrote “So Soul Alone” quite a while back, first getting the music for the verse and later scattered wordplay, verse lyrics and melody. I wanted a sort of Steve Cropper guitar style and Muscle Shoals sound with a mix of Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground.

I can’t imagine being alone during this pandemic! Alone and Lonely — these are two different possible challenges. Everyone experiences being alone or being lonely at some point in time. It may last a minute that seems like hours, or hours that stretch into a lifetime.

As we have kept apart from each other during this pandemic, the struggle can be much harder and held close. While intentionally distancing in solitude can be enriching, even fulfilling, however not wanting to be alone, while feeling lonely at the same time, is a double crush. It can be a heavy load on a person or even a couple!

“So Soul Alone” is about having love and wanting to be close…and aching to be together!
