The band commented:

“Our latest single deadweight. explores the abrupt, and at times terrifying, experience of sleep paralysis. During the writing process for this particular song, we were eager to experiment with intensity in order to effectively convey the duality between paranoid insomnia, and restful serenity. This song has a furious introduction, which very suddenly drops into a riff centric and groove laden verse, this then sharply transitions into a hyper melodic chorus before snapping back into another chaotic verse. This whiplash of emotions was intended to emphasise the unpredictable nature of sleep paralysis, presenting both the darker, more disturbing areas that your mind will take you in times of sudden fear, as well as the comfort involved when the paranoia passes.

Lyrically we were aiming to hone in on the mental toll that sleep paralysis can have on a person. Lyrics such as ‘I feel so tarnished, withering away’ and ‘casting a shadow over who I am’ were written by our vocalist Nathan to emphasise how overwhelming and self-consuming insomnia and sleep paralysis can be. For the visualiser we wanted to present our new mascot in a more tranquil setting, the more hopeful of the two angles that deadweight. explores. Taking influence from the retro-futurism movement, and films such as Blade Runner 2049, and The Matrix, our mascot is shown floating in a water tank with coding sequences unfolding to the left of them. The meditative and reflective visual that this creates is one of the central elements that we were wanting to accentuate in the branding for our upcoming EP cycle, a way for us to rise above our past torment and embrace a brighter future.”
